"In Bond" refers to wines or spirits that have not yet had Duty or VAT applied. This allows a case or bottle of wine stored in an HMRC-approved bonded warehouse to be bought and sold multiple times without any of the owners having to pay taxes. For these reasons, wine bought and sold for investment purposes is almost exclusively traded In Bond.

In addition to the tax advantages, bonded warehouses provide optimal storage conditions for fine wine, ensuring it remains in pristine condition over the years. More importantly, all duty-deferred goods in the UK and EU are tracked through the Excise Movement and Control System (EMCS). Yes, the 'Storage' page of your account documents all of the wines that have been assigned to your account. On this page you can:

Our storage rates are £13.50 + VAT per 9L case (12x75cl, 6x150cl, etc) per year and £6.75 + VAT per 4.5L case (6x75cl, 3x150cl, etc) per year. The fee includes full market value replacement insurance. Storage charges are billed monthly, 1 month in advance.

Yes, all purchases are initially assigned to your own account with BordeauXchange at our bonded warehouse facilities. Once assigned, you can arrange delivery through the 'Storage' page of your account or by contacting us. We offer UK delivery within 1-3 working days using temperature-controlled transport vehicles. Pricing varies by postcode - you can use our delivery cost calculator for exact pricing. Please note, if the wines tax status is still "In Bond", you will also have to pay the UK duty and VAT. We do not offer international delivery, but we can release the wines for collection by your chosen transporter at no cost.

Each case of wine stored in bond has a Unit Identification Number (UID), these are essentially barcodes attached to every case of wine in the warehouse upon arrival to assign ownership and provide traceability. Each case of wine you purchase is assigned to your own unique storage account code. The UID number, along with other details, can be seen in the photographs we take of your wine for further assurance/clarity. You will receive an automated email whenever a wine is added or removed from your account.

Landing fees of £2.50 + VAT per case apply when wines first arrive at our warehouse facilities. This one-time processing fee covers professional receipt and checking service, warehouse allocation, system entry, and the first 3 months storage & insurance. Landing fees are free for wines purchased or being sold on BordeauXchange.

LCB's bonded warehouse facilities are designed to protect and preserve fine wine under optimal conditions. They maintain a constant temperature (typically around 12–14°C) and relative humidity of 65–75% to keep corks moist and prevent oxidation. Other measures such as vibration and lighting are also controlled, ensuring wines age naturally without disruption. High-level security measures, including 24/7 CCTV, access controls, and alarm systems, provide added peace of mind.

No, wines stored in bond can only be collected by HMRC-approved companies due to duty and VAT regulations. However, you're welcome to arrange a visit to the warehouse to view your wines by contacting us in advance. For collection, we can release wines to your chosen transporter at no cost.

Use the wine transfer request feature in your account to specify the wines and their current storage location. Our team will coordinate with the existing warehouse, handle all paperwork, and arrange professional transport to our LCB facilities. You'll be updated throughout the transfer process.

For transfers between LCB bonded warehouses, we charge £0.50 + VAT per case with a minimum charge of £15 per transfer. For transfers to other bonded warehouse facilities, standard UK delivery rates apply. If your delivery is not needed urgently we may be able to consolidate multiple delivery requests and offer a reduced charge.
